This specimen was lot 40634 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Naples & Sicily. 120 Grana, 1808. NGC AU-58. Dark toned, sharply struck and very attractive." This type is listed for 1806-08. The French invaded Naples and evicted Ferdinand IV, who fled to Sicily. Napoleon installed his brother Joseph as king, where he happily remained until forced by his brother to go to Spain, where he was very unpopular. As Ferdinand was protected by Admiral Nelson and the British navy, the French were unable to take Sicily.
