This specimen was lot 14965 in Heritage sale 410 (Long Beach, May 2006), where it sold for $2,990. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bern. Gold Ducat 1697, lustrous AU. A scarce and very attractive early issue." The climbing bear is the badge of Bern, Switzerland. This type, like all Bernese gold coins of the seventeenth century, is rare and expensive.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW.
