Sincona sale 97, lot 3228

This specimen was lot 3228 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 3,000 CHF (about US$4,352 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, Ecu pistolet 1564, Genf. Sehr selten. Fast vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Geneva, écu pistolet of 1564, Geneva mint. Very rare, About Extremely Fine.)"

Friedberg lists this obscure type for 1562-86 and notes that the last écu pistolet was struck in 1642. Many varieties exist.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: 3.31 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 3.20 g.
