Sincona sale 33, lot 2412

This specimen was lot 2412 in Sincona sale 33 (Zürich, October 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

" Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Ernst I. 1826-1844 Konventionstaler 1835. Gotha. Äusserst selten. Vorzüglich-FDC. Hübsche Tönung. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Ernest I, 1826-44, convention thaler of 1835, Gotha mint. Extremely rare, Extremely fine-uncirculated, Nice toning.)"

This extremely rare type is not listed in Davenport. One of Ernest's younger sons married queen Victoria and became Albert, Prince Consort.
