Sincona sale 23, lot 2225

This specimen was lot 2225 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Sachsen-Coburg-Eisenach, Herzogtum, Johann Kasimir und Johann Ernst II. 1572-1633 Taler 1583. Saalfeld. Sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Eisenach, John Casimir and John Ernest II, 1572-1633, thaler of 1583, Saalfeld mint. Very fine.)"

The duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Eisenach was one of the endless reshuffles of the Saxon duchies and likely lasted only for this set of brothers. This issue could equally be filed under Saxe-Gotha and Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach. This type is listed for 1577-86.
