This coin was struck at the Philadelphia mint as occupation coinage for Belgium. To increase their acceptability, both the French "BELGIQUE" and the Flemsih "BEGIE" appear on the obverse. Leftover blanks from 1943 steel cents were used. A few were struck in silver by accident, using planchets intended for Netherlands 25 cents.
Recorded mintage: 25,000,000.
Specification: 2.75 g, zinc plated steel, 19 mm diameter, plain edge.
Catalog reference: KM 133.
