This specimen was lot 20893 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $1,035. The catalog description[3] noted, "Napoleon Empereur 5 Francs 1807B, AU58 NGC, magnificent cabinet patina over fully lustrous surfaces with no striking weaknesses or adjustment marks. A very pleasing coin and oh so close to mint state." Shown is a Napoleonic five francs struck at the Rouen mint (mint mark "B") in 1807. It is a rather scarce date. The various designs of Napoleonic five francs form eight distinct types of which this is the fifth, struck 1806-07 with a complete set of this type comprising 23 date and mintmark combinations, some very rare. This date is priced[1] about double the common date (1806A).

Specification: 37 mm diameter, 25 grams, 0.900 fine silver, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.

Mintage: 29,468[1], 30,000[2].
