Sincona sale 80, lot 2636
Asti and Carmagnola, circa 1500, from Putzger's Atlas

This specimen was lot 2636 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 2,800 CHF (about US$3,356 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY | Asti, Ludovico XII di Francia, 1498-1515. Parpagliola o. J. Rare. Extremely fine." This coin was struck by the king of France during one of his periods of occupation of northern Italy. Asti, later part of the duchy of Savoy, divided the marquisate of Montferrat into two pieces. The parpagliola is obscure, but seems to have been a base silver coin worth 2 soldi and 6 denari occasionally struck in Savoy and Milan.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver or billon. This specimen is 1.80 g.

Catalog reference: MIR 84/2 (R2).
