This specimen was lot 936 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAINTIAPUR: Jatra Narayan, 1782-1785, AR rupee, SE1704, EF, R, ex David Cashin Collection." The state of Jaintiapur in Assam was a dependency of Cooch Behar in the sixteenth century but regained its independence in the seventeenth century. The kingdom was contended between the East India Company and Burma until 1835, when the British permanently annexed it. Coins are dated using the Shaka Era, which is the AD date minus 78 years. The SCWC lists three types for this date (KM 192, 193, 194) but does not photograph or describe them, so we will lump them all here.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 9.41 g.
Catalog reference: KM-192.
