This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1917-20 for France during and after World War One. It was superseded by a slightly smaller coin struck 1920-38. This design was also used for similar ten and twenty-five centime pieces; the central hole kept it from being confused with larger denominations with similar diameters. This coin is very common in circulated condition but hard to find choice.
Recorded mintage: 43,848,000.
Specification: 3 g, copper-nickel, 19 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by E. E. Lindauer (1869-1942).
Catalog reference: F.121/3, KM 874.
