The specimen shown is of a common type struck 1879-86. It is almost completely anepigraphic, lacking a mintmark or country of origin and bearing only a date and denomination. Guatemala was the last country in Latin America to abandon the real, in 1912, a reflection of the extreme conservatism of the peasant society.
