This specimen was lot 73378 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. 5 Mark, 1936-G. Karlsruhe Mint. NGC MS-65. A lustrous and toned example with ample detail." This type of 1935-36 makes no reference to the newly installed Nazi regime; the issue of 1936-39 (KM 94) added a swastika to the reverse. Though the size of a half dollar, its higher fineness meant that it contained the same amount of silver as the larger five mark of the Weimar Republic such as the Goethe commemorative (Dav-974). This type was also minted at Munich ("D"), Muldenhutten ("E"), Berlin ("A"), Stuttgart ("F") and Hamburg ("J").
