The specimen shown is an example of a type struck in Austria, 1968-2002. It replaced a similar coin (KM 2889) struck in billon 1960-68. This date is common. Austria began minting euros in 2002, rendering this coin obsolete. The obverse features a Lippizaner stallion, whose prancing tricks still enthrall tourists in Vienna.
Recorded mintage: 21,422,000 plus 84,000 proofs.
Specification: 4.8 g, copper-nickel, 23.5 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: Herinek 37, KM-2889a.
