Stephen Album sale 43, lot 573

This specimen was lot 573 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $390. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAFAVID: Sulayman I, 1668-1694, AR 10 shahi, Isfahan, AH1196, mount removed (as virtually always), lovely strike, VF, Scarce. Both the 10 and 20 shahi coins of Sulayman I and other later Safavids were struck for presentation purpose[s]. It was at least theoretically required to be mounted on one's formal coat, and for this reason they are almost never found without having once been mounted." The SCWC lists Isfahan as the only mint for this denomination, which was struck AH 1079-1096.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 18.48 g, silver, this specimen 16.76 g.

Catalog reference: A-2658, cf. Rabino-14, KM 227.
