Steve Album Auction 52, lot 687

This specimen was lot 687 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Aurangzeb, 1658-1707, AV mohur, Surat, AH1110 year 43, bold strike, PCGS graded AU58." This type is listed from 63 mints in India with regnal years 4-45. The Mughal Empire dominated India during the seventeenth century but broke up in the eighteenth century under external attack, Hindu rebellion and civil war. This collapse allowed European colonizers entry into the subcontinent and eventual British control.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 10.8-11.0 g, gold.

Catalog reference: KM-315.45, Fr-810.
