Sincona sale 38, lot 1774

This specimen was lot 1774 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 8,500 CHF (about US$10,194 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Danzig, Stadt, Dukat 1682. Titel Johann III. Sobieskis von Polen. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast FDC. Leicht gewellt. (city of Danzig, ducat of 1682, in the name of John III Sobieski of Poland. Very rare in this condition. About uncirculated. Lightly wavy planchet.)"

Ducats were struck all over Europe as trade coins. This Polish issue is known dated 1677 and 1682.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine, this specimen 3.48 g.
