This specimen was lot 1734 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$120 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, Lothringen, Herzogtum, Karl IV. 1626-1634. Teston 1632, Nancy. Sehr schön. (duchy of Lorraine, Charles IV, 1626-34, teston of 1632, Nancy mint. Very fine.)"
Altho the duke doubtless spoke French, he did not consider himself a subject of the king of France but rather of the emperor. The province would not fall under French domination until after the Thirty Years War and was not annexed until the death of the last duke in 1766. This teston, while scarce, was struck 1626-32. Another teston, with a different bust (KM 35), is recorded for 1626-31.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 9 g, silver; this specimen 8.72 g.
Catalog reference: Flon 702,17, KM 45.
