This specimen was lot 4234 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 2200 CHF (about US$2,783 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "EL SALVADOR Republik. Pattern-Peso 1861. FDC." This pattern peso is listed in the SCWC in bronze and silver. The design is strongly influenced by the Guatemalan coins of the 1850's, with its bold portrait of the caudillo, but it was not produced. Regular coinage did not begin for El Salvador until 1892.
