This specimen was lot 4024 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 575 CHF (about US$797 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Reichsmünzstätte Basel Friedrich, als Kaiser, 1452-1493, Goldgulden o. J. (1478-90), Basel. Rv. Madonna mit Kind von vorne, unten das Wappen von Philipp von Weinsberg. Sehr schön. Kleine Schrötlingsfehler. (Switzerland, canton of Basel, imperial mint of Frederick III, 1452-93, undated goldgulden, circa 1478-90, Basel mint. Obverse: Madonna and Child facing, the arms of Philip of Weinsberg at their feet. Very Fine, Minor flan flaws.)"

Altho the Swiss cantons had won de facto independence from the Empire by the late fifteenth century, the fact was not officially recognized until 1648, when the confederation left the empire by the treaties of Westphalia which ended the Thirty Years War.

Record mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.31 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 3.25 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-10, Winterstein (Goldgulden) 189, HMZ 2-49i.
