Mohammad Hasan Khan is considered the founder of the Qajar dynasty altho he ruled only the region immediately south of the Caspian Sea. The Zands dominated most of central Iran while Azad Khan lurked in Azerbaijan and the Durranis roamed Afghanistan. Most of his coins were issued in the name of Isma'il III; this quarter mohur was struck at Isfahan and Tabriz, AH 1170-1171.
