This specimen was lot 1924 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €380 (about US$458 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANKREICH/LOTHRINGEN, HERZOGTUM, Anton, 1508-1544. Teston 1544, Nancy. Herrliches Renaissanceporträt. Kl. Zainende, vorzügliches Exemplar. Exemplar der Slg. Bernhard Terletzki. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 152, Osnabrück 2009, Nr. 5216. (French states, duchy of Lorraine, Anton, 1508-44, teston of 1544, Nancy mint. Handsome Renaissance portrait, lightly clipped, extremely fine example.)"
Altho the duke doubtless spoke French, he did not consider himself a subject of the king of France but rather of the emperor. The province would not fall under French domination until after the Thirty Years War and was not annexed until the death of the last duke in 1766.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
