Stephen Album sale 50, lot 2535

This specimen was lot 2535 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "KALAT: AR paisa, Kalat, AH1786 (sic), date error for AH1286, in the name of the long deceased Durrani Mahmud, VF, R." The edition of the SCWC in our hands does not list a KM 10 for this state in central Balochistan, which struck coinage only in the mid-nineteenth century. The Khan of Kalat was the last native ruler to accede to the state of Pakistan in 1948. As his subjects were 99.8% Muslim, he had little choice.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper, this specimen 4.43 g.

Catalog reference: KM-10.
