This specimen was lot 22099 in Heritage sale 61352 (Dallas, December 2023), where it sold for $99. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XIV 1/4 Ecu (20 Sols) 1707-T XF45 NGC, Nantes mint." Shown is a twenty sols aux insignes (twenty sous with insignia) struck at the Nantes mint in the last years of Louis XIV's reign. The type was struck 1707-08 in substantial numbers but the type is scarce today. When the coin was recalled in 1710 for melting, the government paid only 14 sols each for them.
Recorded mintage: 1,897,226, a fairly common date.
Specification: 6.11 g, 0.833 fine silver, 26-27 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Norbert Roëttiers.
