Sedwick Treasure Auction 28, lot 942

This specimen was lot 942 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (German States), taler, 1841-G, Ernst I. AU with some small edge nicks, lightly rainbow toned with plenty of mint luster remaining, first year in a two-year type with a reported mintage of 16,000 for each year. Pedigreed to the Zeitlos Collection and purchased from the Munzen und Medaillen A.G. on April 15, 1955, lot #444, with collector's envelope." This type was struck 1841-42. One of Ernest's younger sons married queen Victoria and became Albert, Prince Consort.

Recorded mintage: 16,000.

Specification: 22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 22.22 grams.
