Guatemala 1884 cuartilla rev DSLR.jpg

The specimen shown is of a common type struck 1879-86. It is almost completely anepigraphic, lacking a mintmark or country of origin and bearing only a date and denomination. Guatemala was the last country in Latin America to abandon the real, in 1912, a reflection of the extreme conservatism of the peasant society.

Recorded mintage: 100,000.

Specification: .77 g, 0.835 fine silver, .020 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 151.
