This specimen was lot 33998 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: George III 1/2 Guinea 1790 MS62 NGC. A remarkably specimen with considerable flash remaining in the fields and a clear sharpness to the devices that seems to press the boundaries of the assigned grade. Tied with one other example in this penultimate grade, with just two pieces ranking a point higher." This type, struck 1787-1800, is the commonest English gold coin of the eighteenth century.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 4.18 g, 0.917 fine gold.
Catalog reference: S-3735; Fr-362; KM-608.
