This specimen is a later date of a series of bronze centavos minted at Lima for Peru 1901-49. Numerous varieties exist, depending on the spacing and size of the legends. This subtype, weighing only 2.5 grams, replaced the earlier five gram centavo in 1941. In 1950, the coin was changed to zinc.

Recorded mintage: 2,157,000.

Specification: 2.5 g, bronze, 19 mm diameter, plain edge.
