This specimen was struck for French Polynesia by the Paris mint, which has issued this type sporadically since 1975. It is the smallest denomination currently in production. French Polynesia is better known to English speakers as Tahiti. This coin shares a common obverse with other types issued for various French colonies, such as New Caledonia and the New Hebrides.

Recorded mintage: 2,000,000.
