This specimen was lot 34397 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "British Colony Specimen Rupee 1888-H SP64 PCGS. Heaton, (H), mint. A lightly toned coin with resplendent underlying luster. Few of this type exist in specimen grade." Mombasa is a port in what is now Kenya and came under British control in 1887.
Recorded mintage: 94,000 plus a few proofs.
Specification: 11.66 g, 0.917 fine silver, .343 troy oz ASW.
