The type was struck in Lima 1950-70 in limited numbers as a bullion coin. This date is not common; some dates are rare (<200 pieces). Gold five, ten, twenty and fifty soles were struck during the same period. This specimen was lot 1355 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 100 Soles, 1956. PCGS MS-62+ Secure Holder. From a mintage of only 1,159 pieces."

Specification: 46.8071 g, 0.900 fine gold, 1.3544 oz AGW.
