Sincona sale 95, lot 4600

This specimen was lot 4600 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$347 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zug, Stadt und Kanton, Dicken 1609, Zug. Fast vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Zug, dicken of 1609, About Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck 1609-22. St. Oswald, a British king who converted the Northumbrians, is featured on the obverse. The reverse motto, "CVM·HIS·QVI·OD[ERT]·PACE[M]· ERAM·PACI[FICVS]", translates to, "I remained peaceful to those who hated the peace." A dicken was twenty-four kreuzer or two-fifths gulden.

Record mintage: unknown but a better date.

Specification: 9.1 g, silver, 30 mm diameter, this specimen 8.89 g.
