Sincona sale 98, lot 4108

This specimen was lot 4108 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 11,000 CHF (about US$15,956 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Doppeldukat 1698, Bern. Sehr selten. Fast vorzüglich. Rand bei 6 Uhr leicht befeilt. (Switzerland, city and canton of Bern, double ducat of 1698, Bern mint. Very rare, About Extremely Fine, Minor rim filing at 6 o'clock.)"

The climbing bear is the badge of Bern, Switzerland. This type, like all Bernese gold coins of the seventeenth century, is rare and expensive.

Specification: 6.98 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 6.90 g.
