Steve Album sale 39, lot 3618
SA39-3618r.jpg

This specimen was lot 3618 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRELAND: Free State, AR 3 pence, 1933, attractive luster, very decent grade for this scarce date, NGC graded MS63, S." This is a scarce date of a type struck 1928, 1933-35. The first coinage of the new country was in 1928; in 1939, the obverse legend was revised from "SAORSTAT EIREANN" to plain "EIRE", which title still obtains.

Recorded Mintage: 320,000.

Specification: 3.24 g, nickel, 17.6 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-4.
