Sincona sale 92, lot 50

This specimen was lot 50 in Sincona sale 92 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 4,250 CHF (about US$5,891 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN Afsharid Dynasty, Shahrokh, 1st reign, 1161-1163 AH (1748-1750). Mohur Ashrafi 1163 AH (1749/1750), Mashhad Mint. 4th type (sikke zad dar jahân be.hokm-i khodâ Shahrokh kalb-i ostân-i Rezâ). Äusserst seltener Jahrgang. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung, Extremely rare date. NGC MS62, Extraordinary condition. Purchased from A. Shams, Frankfurt, in 1986. Finest certified by NGC."

This type is listed for AH 1163 only. Another ashrafi of the same year (KM A435) appears to vary by having the reverse inscription surrounded by pearls rather than a circle.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 11 g, gold, this specimen 11.04 g.

Catalog reference: Album 2779, cf. Rabino ACSM pl. 17 no. 424 (Rupi), Farahbakhsh p. 70, KM 444, Fr-17.
