This specimen was lot 1819 in Sincona sale 82 (Zurich, May 2023), where it sold for 1,200 CHF (about US$1,606 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "George III. 1760-1820. 1/2 Guinea 1795, London. Fifth laureate head. Spade shaped shield. ''Sehr selten'' (Very rare). NGC AU55. Finest certified by NGC." This type, the commonest of several used during George's long reign, is noted for 1787-1800. The reform of 1817 terminated all guinea-denominated issues in favor of the sovereign. At that time the guinea, which heretofore had varied in value, was fixed at 21 shillings.
