The first specimen was lot 72594 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONG KONG. Cent, 1925. London Mint. PCGS MS-64 Brown Gold Shield. A well struck, deeply violet-brown example in an alluring, near Gem state of preservation." Hong Kong was seized by the British from China in 1842 and held by them until its return in 1997. In Hong Kong, 100 cents = one dollar; sterling coinage was never used there. This type was struck 1919, 1923-26.
Recorded mintage: 2,500,000.
Specification: 7.50 g, bronze, 27.7 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 16; Mars-C5.
