Stack's Bowers 2025 NYINC sale, lot 39439

This specimen was lot 39439 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. 50 Ore, 1901. Kongsberg Mint. Oscar II. PCGS MS-63." Norway, long part of the Danish kingdom, was confiscated and handed over to Sweden in 1814 as penalty for supporting Napoleon. This type is listed for 1877, 1880, 1885-1904 and this is a common date. It was accompanied by one and two kroner of similar design. In 1907, Norway obtained a divorce from Sweden and became an independent kingdom under a Danish prince.

Recorded mintage: 404,400.

Specification: 5 g, 0.600 fine silver, 22.1 mm diameter, reeded edge.
