Germany 2002-A 50 cent

The specimen shown is an example of a type struck in Berlin for Germany 2002-06. Germany began minting euros in 2002. The Berlin Wall formerly passed through the Brandenburg Gate, which also appears on the German twenty cent. To this writer's knowledge, Germany is the only country in Europe still operating branch mints; A - Berlin; D - Munich; F - Stuttgart; G - Karlsruhe and J - Hamburg. This denomination has not been struck for circulation since 2004 but still figures in the collector sets.

Recorded mintage: 337,600,000 plus 130,000 proofs.
