This specimen was lot 23371 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $763.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand I 50 Stotinki 1916, MS62 NGC, lightly toned and original with mint brilliance, rare date which was withdrawn from circulation and melted. The SCWC estimates that less than 100 have survived." This type was struck for the kingdom of Bulgaria in 1912-16. Altho the 1916 is rare, the other dates are common. The 1916 one and two leva issues were also withdrawn and melted.
Recorded mintage: 4,582,000.
Specification: 2.5 g, 0.835 fine silver, .067 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: KM 30.
