This specimen was part of lot 1164 in Goldberg sale 116 (Los Angeles, June 2020), which sold for $450. The catalog description[1] noted, "Israel. Gold 5 Sheqalim, plus Silver ½ and 1 Sheqalim, 1982. KM-125, 122, 121. Qumran-the dead sea scrolls. In custom wood presentation case. Lot of 3 coins. Choice Brilliant Proof." This type was accompanied by a silver sheqel (KM 122) and silver half sheqel (KM 121), which were probably sold in sets. The coinage was reformed in 1985-86, with 1,000 sheqalim = one new sheqalim.
Recorded mintage: 4,927 proofs, Munich mint.
Specification: 8.64 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.250 troy oz AGW, 22 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 125.
