This specimen was lot 75034 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Jaintiapur. Rupee, SE 1653 (1731). Bar Gossain II. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, EF Details. Cleaned ages ago, light mottled toning has formed, mostly in the recesses of the design." The state of Jaintiapur in Assam was a dependency of Cooch Behar in the sixteenth century but regained its independence in the seventeenth century. The kingdom was contended between the East India Company and Burma until 1835, when the British permanently annexed it. Coins are dated using the Shaka Era, which is the AD date minus 78 years.
