Heritage sale 3029, lot 30910
Peru 1851 medio escudo rev H3029-30910.jpg

This specimen was lot 30910 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 1/2 Escudo 1851 Lima-MB, MS64 NGC. This sparkling little gold coin displays well-struck features and full mint brilliance. Very rare in this superior quality and listed as a key date in the SCWC. Ex: 'Colonel' E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman/B.G. Johnson." This type was struck at Cuzco in 1826 and at Lima 1826-56. It is much scarcer than the prices in the SCWC would indicate.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a scarce date.

Specification: 1.69 g, .875 gold, .047 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 146.1.
