This specimen was lot 1225 in Jean Elsen sale 150 (Brussels, March 2022), where it sold for €85 (about US$113 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, BESANCON, Ville impériale, billon blanc (demi-carolus), 1563. D/ B. cour. et cuir. de Charles Quint à g. R/ Ecu de la ville posé sur une croix longue. Très Beau. (France, imperial city of Besançon, billon blanc or half carolus of 1563. Obverse: crowned and armored bust of Charles V left; reverse: arms of the town over a long cross. Very Fine.)"
All of the coinage of this town bears Charles V's portrait, even long after his death. Besançon was incorporated into France in 1678. French coins struck there bear the mintmark "CC".
