Sincona sale 88, lot 183

This specimen was lot 183 in Sincona sale 88 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$330 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"IRAN, Qajar Dynasty, Fath-'Ali Shah, 1212-1250 AH (1797-1834). Kran 1246 AH (1830), Orumi Mint. "Saheb Gheran" type. Äusserst seltener Typ und Münzstätte, Sehr schön-vorzüglich, Leicht gereinigt; This silver Extremely rare type and mint. Very fine-extremely fine. Lightly cleaned. Purchased from Heritage, New York, in 2013."

This silver denomination was struck at numerous mints during the reign of Fath 'Ali Shah. This style and weight standard is called type E in the SCWC. It was used AH 1241-1248 but the Urumi mint is known only for AH 1241.
