This type was struck 1948-49 for the Portuguese colony of Angola on the west coast of Africa south of the Congo. An aluminum ten centavos (KM 82) was struck in 1974 but was never issued, making this type the last of its denomination to circulate. After a protracted struggle, Angola obtained its independence in 1975 and then dissolved into civil war as various factions contended for control.
