The first specimen was lot 73155 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "[[France|FRANCE]]. Europa. 6.55957 Francs (Euro), 1999. Paris Mint. NGC PROOF-66 Ultra Cameo. A wonderful proof commemorating the creation of the Euro currency and the fixed exchange rate of the French Franc to the Euro, this Gem delivers sharp details and stunning cameo contrast." Starting in the 1980's, the Paris mint issued so many NCLT's that the standard catalogs had to drop them to keep the books a manageable size. This one was struck to promote the changeover from the franc to the euro. The face value of 6.55957 francs = one euro.
