from the Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70343
SB1021-70343r.jpg

This specimen was lot 70343 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. Dollar, 1973. Ottawa Mint. Elizabeth II. PCGS SPECIMEN-67. Showcasing spectacular color on the reverse that progresses outward from violet to emerald, amber, a second violet band, and finally rich sapphire on the periphery. Excellent for the aficionados of 'monster toning.'" In 1973, the Ottawa mint struck a dollar in nickel (KM 82) for the centennial of Prince Edward Island and a dollar in billon (KM 83, shown here) for the centennial of the Mounties. Both were hoarded and are common today.

Recorded mintage: 1,031,271.

Specification: 23.33 g, 0.500 fine silver, .375 troy oz ASW, 36 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM-83.
