This specimen was lot 23819 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Jose I gold 6400 Reis 1760-R, AU58 NGC. An attractive example with frosty luster throughout. Several streaks on the reverse are the result of improper alloy mixture. From The RLM Collection, Part II." This type was struck 1751-77 from Rio (shown here) and Bahia and is among the more available colonial gold coins of Brazil.

Recorded mintage: 586,000.

Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .423 troy oz AGW.
