This specimen was lot 23787 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $940. The catalog description[1] noted, "Jose I 'Reduced Size' gold 2000 Reis 1773, MS62 NGC. 'Josephus Dominus' type. Struck from significant clashed dies on the obverse. Very collectible as a problem-free Uncirculated example. From The RLM Collection, Part II." The type was struck 1771 and 1773 without mintmark. It is substantially scarcer than the larger 4000 réis (KM 171.2).

Recorded mintage: 14,000.

Specification: 4.03 g, 0.917 fine gold, .118 troy oz AGW.
