Künker sale 335, lot 4348
Saalfeld in 1789

This specimen was lot 4348 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$2,879 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, SACHSEN-SAALFELD, HERZOGTUM, AB 1735 SACHSEN. Johann Ernst VIII. 1680-1729. Reichstaler 1687, Saalfeld. R Hübsche Patina, sehr schön +. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Saalfeld, John Ernest VIII, 1680-1729, thaler of 1687, Saalfeld mint. Scarce, handsome patina, very fine or better.)"

This duchy was erected for Johann Ernest VIII in 1680 and was merged with Saxe-Coburg in 1735.
